OPUS Card: How to Buy It and How to Reload It

The OPUS card is the rechargeable smart card used across Greater Montreal: STM, exo, REM, STL and RTL all read the same card. It is not a pass in itself — it is the card your fares are loaded onto.

One card, one person. An OPUS card cannot be shared.

Where to buy it

⚠️ You have to load at least one fare when you buy the card: an empty card is not sold on its own.

You can buy one from a station agent, from the ticket machines in the Metro, at the STM Fairview Pointe-Claire terminus, at the metropolitan ticket offices (nine stations and terminals, including Gare Centrale and Brossard terminus), at authorised retailers, and at exo sales outlets in the suburbs.

🔑 Next month’s pass goes on sale from the 20th — buying it early is how you avoid the end-of-month queues.

For visitors

If you are here for a few days, L’Occasionnelle is the alternative card: it carries All Modes AB, ABC and ABCD fares at the ordinary rate, with 1, 2 or 10 trips, so you do not have to pay for a card you will not reuse.

Registering your card, online or in person, is the only thing that protects the fares on it if you lose it.
